Overwater bungalows in Fiji are a smaller scene than most travellers expect. Unlike the Maldives or Bora Bora, Fiji has only a handful of properties with true overwater accommodation — but the ones it does have are quietly excellent, and far cheaper than the equivalent in either of those destinations.

Top Overwater Bure Resorts in Fiji
1. Likuliku Lagoon Resort (Mamanucas)
The country’s only true overwater-bure property — adults-only, 10 overwater bures on stilts directly above a designated Class A marine park, plus 35 beachfront and deluxe bures. FJD 2,600+ per night for overwater, FJD 1,800+ for beachfront. 60 minutes by Malolo Cat or 25 minutes by speedboat from Port Denarau.
What sets it apart: the marine reserve below the bures. You can slip from the deck ladder into 3 metres of water and snorkel a healthy fringing reef without leaving your room. The dining is excellent, the spa is genuinely good, and the service is the most polished we have experienced in Fiji.
Book direct — Likuliku’s website includes free transfers and “stay 5 pay 4” specials in shoulder months.
2. Six Senses Fiji (Malolo, “overwater feel”)
Six Senses doesn’t technically have overwater bures — but its beachfront villas with private plunge pools sit right at the water’s edge, and from the pool you look across a turquoise lagoon with little visual difference. FJD 2,800+ per night, FJD 5,500+ for the larger 3-bedroom residences.
What it has that Likuliku doesn’t: families. Six Senses accepts kids, has a small kids club, and the residences are popular for multi-generational honeymoons. The food is the country’s most polished — three restaurants, a sustainable-fishing programme, and one of the best Fijian wine lists.
3. Royal Davui Island Resort (Beqa Lagoon)
Royal Davui’s 16 villas perch over the water at the edge of Beqa Lagoon — adults-only, dive-focused, FJD 2,200+ per night including most meals. The Beqa shark dive is 20 minutes away by boat.
The atmosphere is quieter than Likuliku — fewer guests, lower-key service style. Best for divers wanting overwater accommodation paired with serious dive access.
4. Kokomo Private Island (Kadavu, future overwater)
Kokomo is the country’s most exclusive resort — 21 beach villas, FJD 5,000+ per night, helicopter transfer from Nadi included. Currently beachfront only; rumours of a future overwater wing have circulated since 2024 but not been confirmed.
Astrolabe Reef on the doorstep. The dive operation here is among the best in the South Pacific.
Practicalities of Overwater Stays
What’s actually included
Likuliku’s standard rate includes return boat transfers, breakfast and dinner, and most non-motorised watersports. Six Senses bundles two meals per day at the lower rate tier. Royal Davui is closer to all-inclusive (meals, soft drinks, kayaks, snorkel gear, two daily dives at the higher tier).
Drinks, dives, spa and motorised watersports are extra at every property. Budget FJD 280–450 per couple per day on top of the room rate for these add-ons.
When to book overwater
Late May, early June, September and October are the value sweet spots — peak weather at sub-peak prices. Avoid July/August school-holiday peaks (rates run 30–40% higher).
Book 4–6 months ahead for Likuliku overwater bures in shoulder months. Peak weeks book 6–8 months ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Fiji have overwater bungalows?
Yes — Likuliku Lagoon Resort in the Mamanucas has 10 true overwater bures, and Royal Davui at Beqa Lagoon has 16. Six Senses Fiji offers beachfront villas with private plunge pools as an “overwater feel” alternative.
How much do Fiji overwater bures cost?
FJD 2,600+ per night at Likuliku, FJD 2,200+ at Royal Davui, FJD 2,800+ at Six Senses villas. Roughly half the price of equivalent Bora Bora properties and a third of luxury Maldives overwater.
Is Likuliku Lagoon worth it?
For honeymoon and adults-only luxury travellers: yes. The combination of true overwater bures, marine-park snorkelling from your deck, and the country’s most polished service makes it the standout overwater experience in the South Pacific at the price.
Can families stay in overwater bures in Fiji?
No — Likuliku and Royal Davui are adults-only (16+). For overwater-feel family options, look at Six Senses Fiji’s beachfront villas with plunge pools, or Vomo Island Fiji.
What’s the best time for Fiji overwater bure stays?
Late May to early June, or late September to early October. Peak dry-season weather at sub-peak prices. Avoid July/August unless your travel dates are locked.
